Sylvanus Estate
Sylvanus Estate Vineyard is a small family vineyard, nestled into rolling hills against the gorgeous backdrop of the foothills of the Coast Range. The 25-acre site is located at the western edge of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Elevations range from 450 to 700 ft, and near constant light breezes from the Coast Range dry the vineyard and reduce disease pressure. The small riverine valley offers exciting soil variation with eight different soil series, including Rickreall, Windy Gap, Willakenzie and Bellpine. The cloud splitting effect of Moore’s Valley creates a unique meso-climate, with slightly cooler temperatures but more days of sun than typical Yamhill-Carlton vineyards.
The vineyard has three distinct 5-acre blocks:
The Home Block: gently sloping south-by-southeast exposure that maximizes morning sun; planted to Pommard, 777, 115, and Mt. Eden clones of Pinot Noir in 2013.
The Willow Pond Block: heavier soils and two different aspects offer fantastic ground for white grapes; to be planted in 2018.
The Walnut Grove Block: the highest elevation along with greatest slope and exposure make this potentially the best site on the land; to be planted in 2018.
Pinot Noir clones include Pommard, 777, 115, and Mt. Eden
