Laurel Ridge Winery - The Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area The Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area

Laurel Ridge Winery

Our foray into the world of wine began in 1974 with the purchase of a 240-acre farm by our founder David Teppola, in what is now the heart of he Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Despite the risk, due to the early and unproven stage in the Oregon wine industry, David took a bold chance on the southeast-facing slope, planted to fruit trees, and began to plan for a vineyard. Determined to prove Oregon could grow incredible vinifera, David gambled everything on his dream of planting his own vineyard on Willakenzie Loam, which was then considered to be an infertile and unsuitable soil for viticulture. The land was cleared and planting began in 1980 and by 1982 he was farming 50 acres of vineyard planted to Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Finn Hill Vineyard and Laurel Ridge Winery have weathered some setbacks in our years farming and making wine. Our vineyard was nearly decimated due to Phylloxera and was sadly torn out in 2005 with the except for a .5 acres of Chasselas Doré that continues to forge ahead on its original root stock. We also tragically lost David in 2006, to a difficult battle with cancer. As a vineyard, winery and family, we work to keep David's legacy, vision and passion for the wine alive with every bottle we make.We are delighted to announce the replanting of 17.1 acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris on our estate as of February 2015. Please stay tuned for the undoubtedly exciting years to come as we tend these vines, harvest the grapes and release our new estate wines.
