Solena Estate - The Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area The Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area

Solena Estate
In 2000, Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu purchased an eighty-acre estate as their wedding gift to each other. The property, Domaine Danielle Laurent, was planted with six different clonal selections of Pinot Noir. While waiting for the Pinot Noir plants to mature, the husband and wife team purchased fruit from various vineyards, and created an exciting new family operated winery, Solena Cellars. Solena is the combination of the Spanish and French words "Solana" and "Solene" celebrating the sun and the moon, and the name that Laurent and Danielle, gave to their daughter. Today Laurent and Danielle are producing Pinot Noir from their exciting estate vineyard in Oregon's Yamhill-Carlton appellation as well as their recently acquired Hyland Vineyard situated in the heart of the McMinnville AVA. Solena Cellars also produces Pinot Gris, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from select sites throughout Oregon and Washington. The Solena Cellars wines are crafted at the state-of-the-art Northwest Wine Company. Founded in response to growing demand for a premier, technologically advanced custom winemaking facility, the 115,000 square foot temperature controlled facility allows for winemaking under pristine conditions utilizing the best equipment available. Each Solena wine is handcrafted in small lots often using rotary oak barrel fermenters to achieve a complex style with intense fruit and finely integrated tannins.
Our 80-acre estate, Domaine Danielle Laurent, located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA is planted with a diversity of the new Pinot Noir "Dijon" clones from Burgundy including 114, 115, 667, 777, and 828 as well as the traditional Pommard and Swan clones. The vineyard is densely planted at 2400 vines per acre in 1.80meter (6ft) rows and .80meter (2.5ft) spacing between vines and is carefully managed to produce low yielding vines and high quality fruit. The Montalieus are exploring all aspects of viticulture including Biodynamic to encourage a wine truly expressive of this unique site. In addition to Domaine Danielle Laurent, fruit is sourced from several of the Northwest's finest vineyards including Del Rio and Wooldridge Creek in Southern Oregon and Klipsun Vineyard in Washington.
