Dino Simoni’s great grandfather purchased the land where the vineyard is located in 1894. In 2014, Dino and Patti Simoni bought the property from his cousin with the dream of planting wine grapes. In 2015 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes were planted in this prime region of the Willamette Valley. The Simoni family is very proud of this wine and the history of where it is grown.

The countdown to harvest is on! Veraison—the moment grapes change colors, shifting from growing to ripening—is happening in vineyards across Yamhill-Carlton, and in just a few weeks the grapes will be ready to be picked, move into our cellars, and become wine. ⁠
⁠
Although the “countdown” to harvest is basically all year-round for winemakers, veraison is the sign to turn the volume up, start preparing barrels and doing vineyard tests. We are getting so close. ⁠

Come visit us this weekend to admire the grapes are showing off all their colors!

Yamhill-Carlton is starting to see veraison in the vineyards: the time in the grape life cycle that moves from growing to ripening, signaled by the change in color. Grape skins soften and change color, and from this point forward sugars accumulate and acids decrease. It’s a short period of time before they’ve all changed color but it’s a beautiful moment in the growing year. ⁠

These grapes are at Atticus Vineyard. As winemaker and owner Ximena Orrego puts it, “Veraison always fills me with excitement and anticipation to see the berries start changing color. The countdown to harvest begins.”

Oak Springs Farm is a gorgeous scenic road near Carlton, and five wineries along the route form the new Oak Springs Farm Loop. We’re about two months away from harvest, and in just a few weeks these grapes will start to turn color, a period called veraison. ⁠
