Emily had the chance to the Willamette Valley in the fall of 2024, and stayed for a few days at the Atticus Hotel in McMinnville while she toured around the Yamhill-Carlton AVA tasting wine. It was so fun to have her in the region, which is the only way to really get to know the vineyards and the farmers that make the wine great! She fell in love with the Chardonnays from our humble little corner of Oregon.

“[Brian] O’Donnell (Belle Pente) notes that the soil itself also makes this section of the Willamette Valley unique, as it is made up of marine sedimentary soils, like sandstone. This, he explains, gives the wines a hint of salinity and minerality that make them brighter and seemingly a bit more fresh. “Aromatically, they smell a little bit like a sea breeze,” he adds.

Emily highlights Chardonnays from many in Yamhill-Carlton at the end of the article: Belle Pente, Gran Moraine, Abbey Road Farm, Tendril Wines, Dominio IV Wines, Soléna Estate, and Penner-Ash.
