Yamhill-Carlton Rosé highlighted in Food & Wine Magazine
Food & Wine loves Yamhill-Carlton! Read the article: These Oregon Winemakers Are Quietly Making America’s Most Exciting Rosés
Writer Ani Duzdabanyan came to visit our wine region in May, and she loved visiting many of our wineries and vineyards, including a trek through the vineyard with Jay McDonald of EIEIO & Company, an incredible paired dinner at Soter Vineyards, and more!
The article starts with an introduction to the Yamhill-Carlton AVA: “Just an hour from Portland, Oregon, Yamhill-Carlton is a relatively new American Viticultural Area (AVA). Named after two hamlets, the region began grape growing and winemaking about 50 years ago. Expat winemakers joined with established locals who had built their careers in neighboring California to buy land and plant grapevines. Their efforts made the region a player in the national market. This year, the AVA celebrated its 20th anniversary.”
Duzdabanyan interviewed many Yamhill-Carlton winemakers about their style of Rosé, and the reasons rosé winemaking is so popular in the region. Ximena Orrego, the founder of Atticus Wines, believes that rosés in the region have an underlying similarity. “One of the typical characteristics, the ‘common vein’ of rosé in Yamhill-Carlton, is minerality, the savory element that runs through the vines,” she says.
Highlighting rosé wine from Soter, EIEIO, Atticus, big table farm, Tendril Wine Cellars, Kramer Vineyards, Soléna Estate, and Kristof Farms, Duzdabanyan’s article is a nuanced look at our region and so many of the great winemakers who work here!
